The Methodist theology college in Piula celebrated the 60th anniversary of the annual conference (Koneferenisi) on Friday night with hundreds of other churchgoers. Piula Theological College honored the church’s six-decade journey with a captivating event that took place in Faleula, the church’s headquarters. They also emphasized the obstacles that the church overcame and the important assistance that the church and conference gave to the theological college.
Theme park closures and statewide lockdowns caused by COVID-19, the measles pandemic, and the constitutional crisis following the 2021 general elections were among the challenges highlighted by theology students in their presentations. They commended the church’s leadership for their tenacity and vision in seeing the organization through difficult times.

The importance of fire embers was one of the theology college’s main takeaways from their performance. They emphasized that embers, which are sometimes thought of as the remains of a dying fire, represent courage, tenacity, and a brilliant, enduring spirit. They depicted embers as a representation of the fire’s eternal blazing even after the flames have died out. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the annual conference, hundreds of Methodist youth from Samoa and outside came to Faleula for a variety of sporting events last week.
